Scientists from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston concluded in an animal model that infection with Candida albicans can lead to the emergence of peculiar structures in the brain structure. A reduction in spatial memory performance was also noted. Both factors also play an essential role in Alzheimer’s disease. The fact that the fungi are able to cross the blood-brain barrier caused astonishment among scientists.
